With 2025 being here I found myself asking this question continuously, what's going to be different this year? I started pondering that at the end of 2024 and here at the beginning of 2025. Many people may ask this same question year after year. Does asking the question what’s going to be different change the results or outcomes?
Â
Then it dawned on me this is not the question to ask. I paused and allowed time for reflection and introspection. Why is this not the question? People often say to get different results you must do something different. Typically, that is stated without an accurate evaluation of the results you want vs the results you get. The question I should be asking is what's going to be consistent this year. This shifted my perspective from what I needed to do differently to incorporating what I needed to do consistently. This shift unlocks success. How? By raising awareness and recognition of the power of consistency to create the reality, results, outcomes, and success that we desire. Habits and behaviors that create our results are consistent. Are we getting the results we want? I ask you to consider a different question, what are you doing consistently? Is it serving you?
Â
Many times, people set resolutions and goals that are not successful because they lack consistency. Often people focus on what they need to do differently instead of the progress they made and what are the things that they implement that they were inconsistent with. Building a bridge through consistency is the key to unlocking your potential and power to succeed. Your success in 2025 will be determined by what you do consistently or the consistency in which you do it. Your consistency will either create what you want or what you don't want. So, what's important here is to focus on building a bridge through consistency to get the results you want versus the results you don't want. Why build a bridge? Because it will carry you to the other side of both the destination and journey. You can have a successful 2025 and beyond by understanding what consistency is and how to build it into your daily practices.
What is consistency?
There are many dictionary definitions of consistency, so we'll use the following to assist us with the working definition: consistency is the ability to stay focused to think or do something continually for a specific time frame until you achieve the desired outcome and results. Consistency is continually showing up in who you are, how you think, and how you do things. Does what you say, think, and how you act align? Are they in harmony? Are they consistent? Consistency starts from the inside out. What do you mean? Your habits and behaviors are a result of your inner programming. Your self-image or how you see yourself, your inner feelings about you, and your self-talk of how you talk about you all contribute to building paradigms.  According to Bob Proctor, a paradigm is a multitude of ideas and habits that are fixed in our subconscious minds.Â
Â
What you continue to think about or give your attention becomes your reality. The key here is using your consistency to focus on the things you want to be, do, and have so that you can create paradigms that will program behaviors and habits to create your reality intentionally based on the paradigms that you are strategically programming. I often work with people regarding their self-image, inner talk, and inner paradigms to intentionally and strategically use them to focus and shift to get the results and outcomes that they want. That starts with a mindset moving into a mind shift. Now that you have an idea of what consistency is let's talk about how to build it.
How to Build Consistency?
Several things can help us to build consistency. The three elements that reinforce this concept effectively are what NLP (Neuro-linguistic programming) we call the VAK. Visual, auditory, and kinesthetic representational systems in how you process information. Awareness of this concept and application is a game changer in building consistency. VAK can help someone become aware of their internal and external motivations to expand the capacity to build consistency. Building consistency through self-determination, diligence, and discipline. VAK can help tap into how we process things, and the Self-Determination Theory helps us understand our determination and motivation through autonomy, competence, and relatedness. Also check out the Self-Determination Theory, https://selfdeterminationtheory.org/the-theory/ from the Center for Self-Determination Theory website.Â
Â
How? Engaging your visual, auditory, and kinesthetic representational systems to process information that you want to build behaviors and habits for will create, sustain, and drive the results you want on autopilot. Really? Yes, your behaviors and habits are driven by your subconscious mind, which once programmed or reprogrammed will do the work for you. What does it look, sound, and feel like for you? By becoming aware of the VAK, and your internal and external motivation through the Self-Determination Theory, you can intentionally do things daily that will help put into practice ways to reinforce this engagement process to help program and reprogram your behaviors and habits for effective consistency. This consistency will be the bridge that carries you over to the success and results that you desire.
Daily practices
Building consistency through self-determination, diligence, and discipline is a daily practice. Daily practice must be intentional and strategic. Some daily practices that I do myself, as well as those I assist, are journaling, affirmations, afformations, visualization, relaxation techniques, NLP (Neuro-linguistic programming), mindfulness, meditation, and setting SMART (S-specific, M-measurable, A-achievable, R-relevant, and T-time-specific) goals. This is not an exhaustive list what a great place to start. Some additional practices that might be helpful are coaching, consulting, mentorship, online courses, and groups that utilize some or all the strategies and techniques that I mentioned. I regularly use the strategies and techniques myself, as well as, helping others to implement them into their daily practices in a way that is empowering and doable.
Â
One of the things I found helpful, and I often share is that daily practice is just that-it's not daily perfection. What do I mean? It means putting things into practice daily to wait for it and build consistency. Through repetition, building muscle memory, and intentional focus, these practices will become ingrained in our subconscious which will impact and influence her habits and behaviors. The key to unlocking and assisting us across this bridge of consistency is being intentional and strategic in how we do it in our daily practices. Consistency just like success is intentional and strategic. Daily practices help us with developing, implementing, and taking action to build consistency.
Conclusion
You can have a successful 2025 and beyond by understanding what consistency is and how to build it into your daily practices strategically and intentionally. Consistency is the ability to use strategies and techniques to stay focused to think or do something continually daily for a specific time frame until you achieve the desired outcome and results. This consistency will allow us to continually show up as who we are, how we think, and how we do things. Education, development, and training that incorporate the concept and application of consistency within personal, professional, leadership, and organizational development products, programs, and services will help facilitate and foster effective change, results, success, and transformation.
