Intro
The key to unlocking the best version of yourself is development. Personal development. Professional development. Leadership development. Organizational development. Intentional and strategic development. Development is about you! Development is about learning, exploring, being curious, raising awareness, building, and educating yourself about yourself. Development is all about who you want to be, what you want to do, and what you want to have. Development is not about doing only but it's also about being. It's about unbecoming as you become and be.
What are the two main ingredients for development? Self-education and Self-mastery. Why self-education and self-mastery? Knowing yourself and how you function impacts every area of your life. Many times, we educate ourselves on everything but us. Life, wellness, and success all start on an inward journey and work outward into your life, results, and outcomes.
Development is about identifying where you are, where you were, and where you want to go. It's about how all those elements and components create, impact, and influence you. It's also about how you access, assess, analyze, and practice what you're learning and incorporate it into being as you are doing. What makes this conversation about development different is seeing development from the inside out. This focuses on self-education, self-awareness, self-mastery, and self-empowerment from within. How can I cultivate development from the inside out?
We will discuss how to cultivate and use personal, professional, leadership, and organizational development that focuses on inner development that translates into outward results. The first thing to become aware of is that there is an inside. An inside of you. Your thoughts, images, and feelings. They all operate inside of you. They make up the internal programming that is running your life, behavior, and results from the inside. Self-education helps you to become aware of these things, how they operate, how to assess whether they are serving you, and how to change them if you want to. Self-mastery is taking this information and putting it into practice as you use it in all aspects of your life. You do this through personal, professional, leadership, and organizational development that incorporates this understanding and application in coaching, consulting, training, tools, and resources that are used.
Personal Development
Personal development is about navigating you. From the inside out. Many view personal development as developing your skills which is included. A missing component in personal development many times is the development of the individual. Skills focus on what you can do. Development focuses on who you become. Development is about being and skills are about doing. Who you want to be and what you want to do determines what you will have. The key to unlocking the best version of yourself in the personal development arena is self-awareness, self-image, self-love, self-compassion, and self-empowerment, which funnels into your development.
Personal development is not optional but mandatory. Personal development is your foundation as well as an investment in your increase, advancement, and expansion in every aspect of your life! Part of your personal development should address your mindset vs your mind shift, your self-image, the affirmations, and the afformations that you use.
Professional Development
Professional development is about navigating you inwardly but getting results outwardly. Professional development is about not only honing your skills but also developing yourself to become the person who effectively, efficiently, and proficiently uses the skill in the work that you do and the purpose that you have. Many people use professional development to build their skills to be effective at their job. Professional development is not only about your skills and the job you do but also about the person and the professional who shows up with those skills to do that job.
Professional development is not just the work you do outwardly but the work you do inwardly. Who is the person who performs the job or purpose that you work to provide through your skills, gifts, and talents? Professional development incorporates work/life integration, confidence, competence, and both internal/external skills for navigating the professional space.
Leadership Development
Leadership development is about leading from within to those that you serve and lead. Notice I said serve and lead because you serve those that you lead. This development is about the leader’s purpose, calling, and assignment to lead. Building yourself first as you then build others. Leading from a wellness perspective to positively impact and influence others for success.
Leadership development is about focusing on leadership competencies from the inside out. Such as spiritual, emotional, and social intelligence. It starts from the within you and as you cultivate and tap into it becomes who you are and how you lead. It incorporates empowerment, awareness, insight, and skills that translate into leadership practices.
Organizational development
Organizational development is not only about how the organization functions but also how you build the people within the organization to function and operate in unity and harmony as they get results. It’s about calling, assignment, mission, and purpose. Organizational culture, structure, and design are impacted by the image within the organization. Developing people not just focusing on performance only. Developing people as they effectively perform their jobs and duties.
Intentionally and strategically facilitating transition, growth, and transformation. Your development should incorporate each of these areas: wellness, communication, and practice. Cultivating them from within the organization and the people that make up the organization.
Practices
For development to be effective it must include application and practice. Development is about processing information through self-reflection and implementation of the information to facilitate transformation and growth. Education and training that includes development help to anchor and submit learning into skills for action. Development has both the elements of awareness and application. Awareness is self-education and practice is self-mastery.
Conclusion
In conclusion, personal, professional, leadership, and organizational development must be intentional and strategic. Development should be a focal point personally, and professionally, in leadership practices, and organizational culture. Training is about development and skills. It's about people. Development is about looking into, adding value, and extracting value from people. When skills training is connected with development it becomes empowering to those involved. People can't be empowered until they first recognize they have power and development helps to cultivate both the awareness, recognition, and use of that power. Development is not about perfection but about being perfected personally, professionally, in leadership, and as an organization.
